The building was used from the mid 1940s to the late 1960s for men arriving by train on their way to Parris Island Recruit Depot. They usually stayed one or two days depending on available transportation via bus, "cattle car," or train that took the young men to boot camp. The building currently houses an antique mall and a clock and watch repair business called Lowcountry Horology.
